今年の発掘も無事終わりました！

今年の発掘も無事終わることが出来ました！

去年のような大雨もなく、事故けがなく終わることが出来ました。

皆様どうもありがとうございました！

8月28日 土嚢デー！

1日遅れですが...。

今日は土嚢戻しの日でした。

来年また掘るために掘った分を土嚢で埋め戻します。

出来るだけ人力で行います。

最後の力仕事です！

Sandbag day today.

We backfill with sandbag because we will excavate again next year.

We perform it with human power as much as possible.

It is last heavy work!

8月27日 セクション書きの日

今日はセクション書きの日。

セクション図とは遺跡内の地層の堆積や遺構の埋まっている土を記録した図のことです。

初めて書く学生は書き方のレクチャーを受けました。

A section figure is the figure which recorded the sedimentation of the stratum in remains.

The student who wrote it for the first time received the lecture of the form.

まずは壁を綺麗に清掃。

At first we clean wall neatly.

冷たい風と時折ぱらつく雨のなか書きました。

8月26日 掘るのは今日まで

掘るのは今日が最後。

今年も結構掘りました。

改めて発掘区を見ると最も深いところで地表面から3m以上掘り進めています。

今年も浜中2遺跡の最下面は確認できませんでした。

浜中2遺跡は何時から使われていたのか？

まだまだ謎は多いです。

We dig it more than 3m from surface in the deepest place when I look at the excavation area some other time.

We were not able to confirm the most lower layer of Hamanaka2 site this year either.

What time were Hamanaka2 site used from?

There are many issue.

明日は地層の堆積を記録する日です。

Tomorrow we are going to draw stratigraphy of site.

8月25日 今日も綺麗に晴れました

２日連続の綺麗な晴れでした。

発掘もあと少しです。

そろそろ終わりを目指して発掘をしていますが、それでもいっぱい遺物が出てきます。

上層からは土器がまとまって出土。

文様や厚さからかなり新しい時期(といっても10〜12世紀くらいですが...)のものと想定できます。

Concentration of pottery is excavated from upper layer.

We assume it to be considerably new time (even if 10-12 century) from decoration pattern and thickness.

こちらはイヌの骨。

これまでは頭骨が中心でしたが、これは下半身の骨。

ある程度解剖学的位置を保っています。

This is a bone of the dogs.

Cranial bones were excavated until now,; but this is a bone of the lower part of the body.

It keeps anatomical position.

8月24日 調査も終盤に...

今日は一日気持ちの良い晴れでした。

調査もいよいよ終盤に...。

先週までの参加者が帰ったので、現場は少し寂しい雰囲気に。

海獣骨の集中も綺麗にして写真撮影。

一つ一つ丁寧に取り上げ。

みんなお疲れモード。

８月２２日 現場説明会＆体験発掘デー！

遅くなりました。

２２日に現場説明会＆体験発掘を行いました。

午前午後合わせて30名を超える方がお越し下さいました。

8月21日 午前中は雨がぱらつき...

今日は午前中雨がぱらついて発掘がほとんど出来なかったです。

それでも午後は発掘を行いました。

忙しかったので、写真をあまり撮れていなくて申し訳ないです。

発掘もそろそろ終盤。

It sprinkled in the morning, and almost none of the excavation was able to do it today.

Still we excavated in the afternoon.

Because I was busy, I am sorry that I cannot take a photograph very much.

The excavation is the end soon.

相変わらずイヌ骨が多く出土しています。

As the season comes to an end, we would like to feature a series of posts from the field school students from the Western team. Today's entry was contributed by Ve'Amber, who talks about her experience at the field school lab.

"The BHAP team has one of the most interesting and coolest archaeological lab locations, hands down. The building is a recently abandoned elementary school that has plenty of storage and work space. It is known affectionately as　ラボ （labo) by the team and placed on the edge of a hill overlooking the Sea of Japan  that also faces towards the neighboring volcano, Mt. Rishiri. Outside, flotation bags are done for pit and hearth samples. However, the processing of all archaeological finds in the elementary school's gymnasium is only the beginning of the best part of lab.

  General finds are located on the opposite side of the lab

There have been a wave of finds coming in every day, everything from a Meiji era coin, dog skulls, Satsumon pottery clusters, and an obsidian scraper. All finds go through the lab's processing as either General Finds or Special Finds. They are both laid out to dry for about a day in separate area and then go through dry cleaning. Finally, they are sorted into the appropriate places so they can shipped and stored. It all sounds really simple, but an initial introduction to the labeling and tagging process can be a lot to get a hold of at first. Though, the lab can get tedious, it's where finds get a closer and second look, with soil and sand brushed off for the first time in hundreds or thousands of years. "

8月20日 今日は発掘できました

２日間雨のため発掘できず、久しぶりの発掘。

人数は相変わらず多いですが、みんな発掘できて嬉しそう。

現在掘っている最下層面から海獣骨、土器、石器の集中を確認しました。

意図的に置かれたニホンアシカ、トドの頭骨は何を意味するのでしょうか？

謎の集石遺構も全容が見えてきました。

まだ用途はよくわかりません。明日以降の課題です。

8月18日 あいにくの雨

今日はあいにくの雨、一日中強風が吹いています。

今日はみんなでラボに行き、レクチャーを受けたり整理作業をしたりしていました。

改めて今年の出土遺物を見ると、その多さに驚きます。

それでも昨年よりは若干少ない様子。

 今年も海獣骨やイヌの骨が多く出土しています。

We went to the laboratory and received a lecture today.

I am surprised at the numerousness excavated remains this year.

Still it looks that there slightly fewer it than last year.

Many marine mammal bone and dog bone are excavated this year.

8月17日 発掘再開です！

休日をはさんで調査再開です。

今週から参加者が入れ替わり、一気に増えました。

遺跡や発掘の状況を説明しています。

今日もイヌの頭骨が出土しました。

The cranial bones of the dog were excavated today.

綺麗にクリーニングするとこんな感じです。

8月14日 前半終了

今日で大体前半が終了でした。

毎日毎日新たな発見があって、ドキドキわくわくする一方でてんやわんやな感じです。

There is new discovery every day.

それぞれの発掘区で様々なものが見つかっています。

8月13日 発掘発掘♪

今日も発掘日和でした。

Good excavation today too!

土器がほぼ一個分つぶれた形で出土しました。

綺麗にしたら接合してみます。

Pottery was excavated that is destroyed for one.

We attach it after clean.

8月12日 毎日新しいものが

毎日毎日新たな発見です。

今日は1日中掘ることが出来ました。

その結果、あちこちから新たな発見がありました。

Everyday new discovery.
We were able to dig it all day today.
As a result, it has new discovery from many places.

骨角器の材料でしょうか。

今掘っているのはどういった場所なのか

考えながらの発掘です。

8月11日 あれもこれも

今日は1日中発掘。

約２０００年前の続縄文時代の層からゾクゾクと遺物が出土しました。

掘って記録して掘って記録して...

昨日から参加した北大の学生も早速発掘。

何か出土するでしょうか。

8月10日 今週もスタート

今日は雨のち曇り。

午前中はラボでの作業、今日から参加した北大の学生に先生から説明。

Today is the rain to cloudy weather.

The morning is work in the laboratories.

みんなは遺物の洗いなどを和気あいあいと。

All are harmonious by the washing of remains.

午後は蒸し暑いなか発掘を再会。

We reopen excavation in the afternoon while it is hot and humid.

ラボでは...

今年も地元の小学校をラボとして使用させてもらっています。

まずは乾燥して、その後ブラシなどで砂を落とします。

We use a local elementary school this year as a laboratory.

At first we dry and drop sand with brushes.

８月７日 もうすぐ1週間

そろそろ調査を始めてから1週間が経ちます。

それぞれ作業も覚えてきて、順調に発掘が進んでいます。

1 week passed from excavation start.
Excavation advances smoothly.

発掘調査では遺物を掘るのと同じくらいその遺物の出土状況を記録することが重要です。

遺構や動物骨の集中が出たら、こんな感じでその状況を記録しています。

It is important that we record the excavation situation of the remains almost as same as digging remains by the excavation.

If structure or concentration of animal bone is found, we record the situation.

彼の足下はこんな感じ。

イヌの四肢骨が出土しています。

8月6日 発掘は続くよ

今日も発掘日和です。

今はオホーツク文化期(1000〜1500年くらい前)と続縄文文化期(2000年くらい前)の層を発掘しています。

Good excavation day!

We excavate layer of Oktotsk culture (1,000〜1,500 years ago) and layer of eli-Jomon culture.

オホーツク文化の層は大量の魚骨と貝片が混じっています。

その間にクジラ類の椎骨とかが出土しました。

A large quantity of fish bones and shellfish pieces are mixed in Okhotsk culture layer.

Vertebra of whale was excavated.

椎骨がバラバラに出土

当時のヒトが食べて残した跡でしょうか。

A vertebra is excavated separately.

Is it the trace which then human eats and left?
